Therapy and Support

Young Parents Program

The Young Parents Program (YPP) serves pregnant and parenting males and females, ages 25 and under. CSI offers support and education to these individuals through family support services, a Young Parents workshop, and individual mentors.

Home-based support and education is provided by family support specialists and parenting individuals, providing education on positive parenting skills as well as positive life skills.

The Young Parents Program includes 10-weeks of parenting class sessions, offered four times a year. General parenting topics, as well as supportive topics, are discussed. Childcare is provided free of charge. There is a small fee associated with the class for the cost of the book.

Mentors are matched individually with clients. The mentors serve as support persons and assist with teaching parenting and life skills.

Emily, 25, is married, and parenting two young children, who have special needs. She was referred to the Young Parents Program by her therapist.  Emily struggled with managing her mental health and attempted suicide on more than one occasion, which led to medication changes and in-patient treatment.  Emily manages her mental illness with new medications and regular visits with her therapist.  Emily and her husband are able to focus on the needs of their young children.  They have increased their communication with their children with the use of sign language, and have learned new discipline techniques.  Emily handles the stress of parenting with the use of self-calming techniques, and she has been able to maintain her employment.  Emily and her husband continue to seek other community resources available to them and their children.
