Lincoln Financial Foundation Awards Funds to Support At-Risk Youth in Omaha-Metro Community

August 9, 2021

Child Saving Institute (CSI) recently received a grant totaling $15,000 from the Lincoln Financial Foundation. Thanks to the foundation’s generosity, CSI can continue offering services to young adults participating in its Independent Living Skills (ILS) program and youth temporarily staying in CSI’s Emergency Shelter.

Each year, CSI’s ILS program supports approximately 70 vulnerable youth who are transitioning from foster care to unsupported adulthood. These youth have a much greater chance of experiencing homelessness than their peers. With assistance from community partners like Lincoln Financial Foundation, the ILS program continues to help teens and young adults develop successful life skills by supporting and connecting them with community programs and services during their crucial transition into adulthood.

CSI’s Emergency Shelter provides a safe environment for youth to temporarily call home when crisis erupts. Each year, approximately 60 Omaha-area youth stay within the Emergency Shelter. During a youth’s stay, the focus is always on therapeutic care with individualized service plans that emphasize strengths, identify achievable goals and reinforce small achievements. The Emergency Shelter at CSI operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and houses up to 12 youth ages 0 to 18 at any given time.

Lincoln Financial Foundation awards grants to hundreds of nonprofits each year that empower and improve the lives of people in the community. They selectively work with organizations like CSI that adhere to best practices and can point to proven outcomes with a focus area in human services, education and financial wellness.
