Read Danita's story about how Substitute Santa helped her family last year.
As a single mother, Danita had struggled financially since splitting from her spouse. As the holidays approached in 2017, she worried about providing gifts for her four children.
One of Danita’s sons, 5-year-old Mark, attended childcare and was receiving services from Diana Shaw, KidSquad Mental Health Consultant/Therapist with Child Saving Institute (CSI). Her youngest, 3-year-old Ariana, was in a classroom receiving extra support from Diana.
Diana knew it was a tough time for Danita financially and told her about CSI’s Substitute Santa (SubSanta) program.
Because of SubSanta, Danita could provide gifts for all of her children — 12-year-old Aeven, 8-year-old Thomas, Mark, and little Ariana. Each child received new footwear, socks, undergarments, and an outfit along with an age-appropriate toy and a book.
Ariana received a pair of unicorn boots with rainbow manes on the back. She adored them and they quickly became her footwear of choice. Though Ariana had always been shy, she exuded confidence and pride as she wore her boots throughout winter!
Danita expressed her gratitude to CSI with tears in her eyes.
