In September 2025, Child Saving Institute and Children’s Square came together in a historic merger rooted in a shared vision: creating brighter futures for children and families while expanding access to critical services across our region.
Today, one year later, we are proud to reflect on what we’ve accomplished together and the impact made possible through our staff, donors, partners and communities.
For generations, both organizations have served as trusted resources for children and families navigating life’s challenges. By uniting our strengths, expertise and legacies, we created a stronger organization equipped to meet growing community needs across both sides of the Missouri River.
The past year has demonstrated the power of that vision.
Together, Child Saving Institute and the Children’s Square campus have continued providing stability, support and hope for children, youth and families while laying the foundation for future growth. From strengthening residential and shelter services to expanding mental health programming, the merger has allowed us to think bigger about what is possible for the communities we serve.
One of the most visible examples of that commitment can be found on the Children’s Square campus in Council Bluffs.
Throughout 2026, significant campus improvements have been underway to ensure facilities remain safe, welcoming and prepared for the future. Renovation efforts include transforming the Lemen Visitor Center into the future Behavioral Health Center, which is expected to open in early 2027.
The new outpatient clinic will expand access to mental health care for children, youth and families throughout southwest Iowa, offering services including individual therapy, family therapy, trauma-informed care and medication management support.
These investments represent more than facility improvements. They reflect our commitment to meeting families where they are and ensuring critical services remain accessible for years to come.
Just as importantly, the merger has helped extend our collective reach. In 2025, Child Saving Institute supported nearly 5,000 children and families, representing a 30% increase in clients served compared to the previous year.
Behind every number is a child finding safety, a family discovering hope or a young person receiving support when they need it most.
As we celebrate this milestone, we also honor the generations of leadership, staff, donors and community members who helped build both organizations into trusted pillars of support. Their commitment created the foundation upon which we continue to build today.
While one year is an important milestone, it is only the beginning. With continued investment in services, facilities and partnerships, we remain focused on creating greater opportunities for children and families throughout Nebraska and southwest Iowa.
Together, we are preserving legacies, expanding access to care and building a stronger future.
