Special Therapies Offered

Many of our therapists are trained in the following therapeutic methods:

Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT)

Parent Child Interaction Therapy is an intensive treatment program that helps both parents and children. This therapy helps parents or caregivers learn positive and supportive ways to communicate with their children, thus enhancing their relationships. It also provides parents and caregivers the tools to help manage any child behavioral problems. As part of this program, the therapist coaches the parent using positive, nonjudgmental language during live play sessions between the parent and child. PCIT is most appropriate for children ages 2 - 7.

Play Therapy

Play Therapy builds on a child’s natural way of learning about themselves and relationships in their lives—play—to help them express their thoughts and feelings and cope with challenges. Children and adolescents have access to puppets, toys for dramatic and fantasy play, art supplies, sand and sand toys to act as tools to help them express their thoughts and feelings. CSI’s trained therapists provide a safe and understanding environment that encourages the child to develop the skills needed to promote healing in their lives.

Trauma Focused - Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)

TF-CBT is a specialized kind of treatment that can help children, adolescents, and their parents deal with the negative impact of traumatic events such as witnessing violence, experiencing sexual or physical abuse, or the loss of a parent. It helps children, adolescents, and families improve their trust in others, cope better with reminders of their trauma, learn ways to stay safer, and deal with future stress.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

EMDR is a specialized treatment used to help children (and adults) manage difficult emotions and stress caused by past traumatic events and disturbing life experiences. By using EMDR therapy, kids can begin to heal more quickly from emotional trauma, much like the body heals from physical trauma. EMDR uses a variety of different techniques to help our brain reprocess traumatic events so the memories are addressed, made less powerful, and stored in a place in our brain that is less likely to be “triggered.” This helps kids to reduce the effects of the traumatic memories and develop better coping mechanisms.

Circle of Security - Parenting (COS-P)

Circle of Security is an early intervention program designed to help caregivers improve their confidence in parenting skills. It has been utilized worldwide to assist parents to better understand and respond to their infant’s or child's needs. It helps children and their caregivers to develop the important building blocks of trust, security and safety in the caregiver-child relationship.

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)

DBT provides the opportunity for clients to learn specific coping skills and tools to assist them in their everyday lives. The skills help clients to learn healthy management of emotions, learn ways to accept and cope with the highs and lows of life, and learn ways to create, improve, and maintain healthy and stable relationships.

Adoption Competent Therapy (TAC)

It is not uncommon for adoptive and birth parents to reach a point at which they or their family feel they would benefit from professional intervention. CSI has therapists who have completed specialized training to understand the specific needs of birth families and adoptive families.
