Child Saving Institute (CSI) operates the Triage Center in partnership with Project Harmony. Founded in 2008, the Triage Center provides a safe place for children who have experienced abuse, neglect, and trauma. Child welfare professionals or police bring children here to ensure their safety while investigating their cases.
The Triage Center provides a homelike setting where children can relax and feel safe. Trauma-informed staff welcomes and provides comfort and care to the children while they wait between interviews or a medical exam. The children receive a light meal, clothing, and other items as needed. Staff helps the children feel welcome and safe by getting to know them. They play games, do art projects, and build on their strengths and interests.
For kids in crisis, being with a trusted adult is more comforting than being in an unfamiliar home. Staff ask the children about relatives or close adult friends who they trust and with whom they would feel safe staying. Staff shares this with the caseworker who contacts identified individual(s) to find placement. Kinship placements like these reduce the number of children who end up in foster care.
