February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month. Child Saving Institute (CSI) believes every young person deserves healthy, consensual relationships. Our growing programs provide resources to help teens and families navigate and heal from dating violence.
- Family Empowerment Program (FEP): Free support groups for survivors of domestic violence and their children, providing tools to heal and rebuild safe, stable lives.
- Pediatric & Adolescent Therapy: Specialized services to help children, teens and young adults process trauma, build confidence and develop healthy relationship patterns.
Clients have said CSI’s therapy brings peace and relief:
“There was this huge change within myself where there was trauma that happened years ago that I didn’t realize I was still holding on to. I don’t think I realized how much stress consumed me until after I started really focusing on it and talking about it.”
CSI’s DV recovery and support program creates meaningful impact through events like Coats & Coffee, where survivors share stories over coffee and receive free winter coats. An upcoming Galentine’s Day celebration offers another line of support and empowerment for survivors.
“I’m grateful I went through the family empowerment program with my family because it healed a lot of my mental health,” a former Family Empowerment client said. “The people at CSI have been amazing.”
The need for these programs is local and urgent:
- Nearly 50% of Nebraskan women will experience physical violence from an intimate partner in their lifetime.
- Almost 70% of Nebraskan women face the psychological aggression of public humiliation, tracking, financial manipulation and threats from an intimate partner.
- About 70% of Nebraskans become survivors of dating violence before age 30, with adolescence being the most common time for first incidents.
These programs are vital for addressing the alarming prevalence of teen dating violence and domestic violence in our communities. Through empowerment groups, one on one case management and therapy, CSI meets survivors where they are—and helps them move forward with renewed confidence.
